Reviewing CandidatesStar Rating

Star Rating

Rate candidates on a 1–5 scale, add notes for context, and keep your hiring team aligned with shared, real-time feedback.

Star Rating

Rate candidates consistently with a simple 1–5 star system that your whole team can see. Star ratings help you compare candidates quickly, share feedback clearly, and keep hiring decisions aligned.

Use star ratings together with notes to capture both your score and the reason behind it.

Use the 1–5 star scale

Score each candidate on a five-star scale based on your evaluation criteria. A shared scale makes it easier for your team to review candidates using the same general standard.

  • 1 star — indicates a very low fit based on your evaluation
  • 2 stars — indicates some concerns or limited alignment
  • 3 stars — indicates a moderate or mixed evaluation
  • 4 stars — indicates a strong evaluation
  • 5 stars — indicates an excellent fit

Your team can use this scale to spot strong candidates quickly and discuss differences in evaluation when ratings vary.

How it works

Add ratings from the candidate view while reviewing applicants for a specific job and stage.

Open the job from the dashboard

Start from your dashboard and open the job where you want to review candidates.

Select the correct stage

Choose the hiring stage that contains the candidate you want to rate.

Open the candidate view

Select the candidate to open their full profile and review details.

Locate the star rating option

Find the star rating control in the candidate view.

Choose a rating from 1 to 5

Click the number of stars that matches your evaluation.

Save or confirm the rating if needed

If your workspace prompts for confirmation, save the rating to apply it. Your selection is then visible to the rest of the hiring team.

Add notes with your rating

Add a note alongside your star rating to explain your reasoning. Notes give context that a score alone cannot provide.

You might use notes to capture:

  • Interview feedback — summarize what stood out during the conversation
  • Reasoning — explain why you chose a specific rating
  • Strengths and concerns — highlight skills, gaps, or follow-up points
  • Hiring context — record details that help others evaluate the candidate fairly

Write notes that help teammates understand your decision at a glance. Clear notes make review discussions faster and more productive.

Keep feedback visible in real time

Ratings and notes are visible to your team as they are added. Real-time updates help everyone stay current without waiting for separate follow-up messages.

This shared visibility reduces confusion, helps prevent duplicate evaluations, and supports faster alignment during the review process.

Collaborate as a team

Star ratings work best when the whole hiring team contributes feedback in one place. Team members can view ratings and notes to understand how others evaluated a candidate.

This makes it easier to:

  • Compare perspectives — see where feedback is aligned or different
  • Support decisions — use shared notes to inform hiring discussions
  • Improve consistency — evaluate candidates using visible team input
  • Track changes over time — review how feedback develops throughout the hiring process

Make ratings more useful

A clear rating system is most helpful when your team uses it consistently. Align on what each star level means for your hiring process so ratings stay meaningful across reviewers.

When you pair ratings with thoughtful notes, your team gets a fuller picture of each candidate and can make better-informed decisions.
