Adjusting Estimated Interview Time
Explain what estimated interview time is and how to set the duration candidates see before starting the interview.
What is Estimated Interview Time?
Estimated Interview Time shows candidates approximately how long the interview will take to complete. It helps them plan ahead and set aside enough time before they start.
How to Adjust Estimated Interview Time
Open the job editor
When creating a new job or editing a job, open the job editor.
Open the Customisation tab
Select the Customisation tab.
Open the Interview Form section
On the left side, find the Interview Form section and click the Form Element tab.
Find the Estimated Interview Time field
Locate the Estimated Interview Time field in the form elements list.
Enter the estimated duration
Enter the interview duration in minutes, then click Save.
Setting the Duration
Set the estimate in minutes. Common values include 15, 20, 30, 45, and 60.
Use the total time the candidate is likely to spend in the interview, not only the time spent answering questions. Include:
- Question response time
- Thinking time
- Loading and transition time
Aim for a realistic estimate. Candidates use this value to decide whether they have enough time to complete the interview.
Example Calculation
Use this formula to build a realistic estimate:
- 5 questions × 2 min response time = 10 min
- 5 questions × 1 min thinking time = 5 min
- 5 min for loading and transitions
Total: 20 minutes
Best Practices
- Be honest and accurate with the estimate.
- Add 5 to 10 minutes of buffer time for technical issues.
- Use realistic time expectations so candidates know what to expect.
- Shorter estimates can attract more applicants.
- Clear interview duration helps improve candidate experience and completion rates.
